Since the start of the FIFA Club World Cup, 4 matches have already been abandoned or postponed due to bad weather. This year’s FIFA Club World Cup format is taking place in the United States, which is notorious for its fluctuating weather conditions.
This was evidenced by the match between Benfica and Auckland City (6-0) being suspended for more than two hours due to heavy, unrelenting rain. Another suspension was Thursday’s match between Palmeiras and Al-Ahly (2-0) for 40 minutes, the teams were asked to stay in the dressing rooms, in turn the fans to leave the stadium stands.

For this complication, a special protocol has been created to automatically pause the match in the event of lightning around the stadium. After a lightning and thunder strike, the interruption would have to last at least 30 minutes. If lightning or thunder strikes again during an interrupted match, the interruption would have to be extended again for another 30 minutes.
But storms are not the only problem with the FIFA Club World Cup. The other problem the players and coaching staff have to face is the heat. Borussia Dortmund’s players proved this in their match against Mamelodi Sundowns. Even the German club’s own substitutes watched the first half of the match in the stadium’s cabins.
Our subs watched the first half from inside the locker room to avoid the blazing sun at TQL Stadium – never seen that before, but in this heat, it absolutely makes sense. 🥵 #FIFACWC pic.twitter.com/5GYtMER1fQ
